SphinxConnect, the annual conference held in Detroit by the Sphinx Organization, will kick off on February 9 with Sphinx founder Aaron Dworkin speaking about the genesis of the Sphinx Organization and the future of diversity in the arts. Dworkin will be interviewed by Melissa Harris-Perry, who is on faculty at Wake Forest University, an editor at large at Elle.com, and hosted the Melissa Harris-Perry show on MSNBC from 2012-16. SphinxConnect, held at the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel in Detroit from February 9-12, will feature performances by Black and Latino musicians and more than 40 sessions dedicated to diversity in classical music. Speakers include Phoenix Symphony clarinetist Alex Laing, composer/violinist Daniel Bernard Roumain, and Katie Wyatt, executive director of El Sistema USA and Kidznotes.
