“The Virginia Symphony Orchestra is exploring performance anxiety through ‘Composed,’ a feature documentary that will be screened at Norfolk’s Naro Cinema on March 5,” writes Mariah Pohl in Tuesday’s (2/7) Southside Daily (Virginia Beach, VA). “The 78-minute film will feature interviews, discussions, and stories by mental health experts and musicians from across the nation including the New York Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, and Los Angeles Philharmonic. Following the screening, documentary producer John Beder, Virginia Symphony Orchestra music director JoAnn Falletta, members of the Ambrosia String Quartet, and Dr. Kamal Chemali of Sentara Healthcare’s Music & Medicine unit will take part in a panel discussion. The night will end with a meet and greet at Ynot Italian, where 10 percent of all sales will benefit the education programs of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra.” The film’s director is John Beder, a percussionist, and associate producer is musician and film editor Katie DeRoche. The cast of the film includes musicians from dozens of U.S. orchestras, as well as conductors, medical doctors, and music faculty members at conservatories.
