“The Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s 2017-18 concert season will be Jaap van Zweden’s 10th and last as music director, and it’s going to be a doozy,” writes Scott Cantrell in Sunday’s (2/12) Dallas Morning News. “Large-scale offerings will include a concert performance of Wagner’s complete Die Walküre … Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Bruckner’s Eighth and Mahler’s Second and Fifth symphonies. The season will also mark the 40th anniversary of the Dallas Symphony Chorus, with repertory including the full-orchestra version of Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem as well as the Beethoven and Mahler symphonies and a specially commissioned work by Jake Runestad…. Other Dallas and world premieres will include Philip Glass’ Double Concerto for two pianos, Jonathan Leshnoff’s Violin Concerto No. 2 and James MacMillan’s Trombone Concerto [and A Globe Itself Unfolding for organ and orchestra by Samy Moussa]…. The ReMix series of smaller-scale concerts at the Dallas City Performance Hall will return … The Soluna International Music & Arts Festival will return May 7-27, 2018. The pops series, with Jeff Tyzik in his fifth season as principal conductor, will include programs featuring tangos, music of Gershwin and Nat King Cole, a movie-and-music presentation of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Cirque de la Symphonie and Bernadette Peters.”
