The Juilliard School in New York City has announced the executive leadership for the Tianjin Juilliard School in China, slated to open in 2019. ALEXANDER BROSE, vice president for development at the Aspen Music Festival and School, will serve as executive director and C.E.O. WEI HE, longtime professor at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and artistic director of the annual San Francisco-Shanghai International Chamber Music Festival, will be the school’s artistic director and dean.
Alexander Brose is currently vice president for development at the Aspen Music Festival and School in Colorado. Prior to joining Aspen in 2012, Mr. Brose spent eleven years at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, as assistant director of admissions, director of admissions, and associate vice president for advancement. Raised in South Korea and Hong Kong, Brose received a bachelor of arts in Asian studies from Cornell University. A vocalist, he has performed widely, including on A Prairie Home Companion, at the Seoul National Arts Center in South Korea, the Glimmerglass Festival in Cooperstown, N.Y., and with the San Francisco Symphony Chorus.
Wei He currently serves as professor of violin and chair of the strings department at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He co-founded Bridge Chamber Virtuosi with principal players of San Francisco Symphony; the chamber ensemble has worked with contemporary Chinese-American composers such as Chen Yi, Bright Sheng, and Lei Liang. He also played and toured with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra for two seasons. He frequently gives master classes at conservatories in Asia and has been on the artist faculties at academies in Beijing, Zhejiang, Norway, and Washington state.
