For the final concert of its 2016-17 season, Maine’s Bangor Symphony Orchestra performed the world premiere of Music Director Lucas Richman’s The Dream I Share on May 7 at the Collins Center for the Arts in Orono. The program, billed as “Celebrating Women,” also featured Fanny Mendelssohn’s Overture in C and Amy Beach’s Symphony in E minor (“Gaelic”). The Dream I Share for orchestra and women’s chorus was commissioned by Blue Hill residents Roxanne Donahey and Tom Bjorkman in honor of Roxanne’s mother, Betty L. Donahey, who died in Blue Hill, Maine in 2014. Her life and writings inspired the work, with three guest soloists illuminating the different stages of her life: Jenny Lester, Kelly Lester, and Helen Richman, actresses and vocalists who are, respectively, Richman’s niece, sister, and mother.
