ROBERT PORCO will step down from his position as the Cleveland Orchestra’s director of choruses with the conclusion of the 2017-18 season. He began his tenure with the 1998-99 season. An Ohio native, Porco also serves as the director of choruses for the Cincinnati May Festival, a position he has held for the past 27 years, and extending through the Festival’s 2018 season. In addition to his work with the Cleveland Orchestra, Porco served as chairman of the choral department at Indiana University from 1980 to 1998, and in recent years taught doctoral-level conducting at the school. He also served as artistic director and conductor of the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir from 1989 to 1998. The Cleveland Orchestra has begun a search for Porco’s replacement.
