On October 28 in Juarez, Mexico and on October 29 in El Paso, Texas, more than 200 musicians from the El Paso Symphony Youth Orchestra’s advanced orchestra, the El Paso Youth Orchestra, and orchestra and chorus members of the Orquesta Sinfónica Esperanza Azteca Cd. Juárez will perform music by Bernstein, Moncayo, Copland, and Marquez. The combined orchestra is known as Youth Philharmonic Orchestra México-USA, “The Bridge.” James O. Welsch, music director of the El Paso Symphony Youth Orchestra, will lead Leonard Bernstein’s Overture to Candide; José Pablos Moncayo’s Sinfonietta; Copland’s “Saturday Night Waltz” and “Hoe-down”; and Alas (a Malala) by Arturo Marquez, featuring the OSEA Chorus. The upcoming events follow inaugural concerts by the ensemble in January 2017 in the U.S. and Mexico. The October 29 concert in Mexico will be presented as part of the International Festival Chihuahua 2017 and will also include guest mariachi artists.
