“Thoughts of loved ones, past memories and traditions will fill the house when the Chicago Sinfonietta presents ‘Regresar/Revisit,’ a Dia de los Muertos celebration” in Naperville and Chicago on November 4 and 6, writes Kathy Cichon in Thursday’s (10/26) Naperville Sun (Naperville, Ill.). “While Dia de los Muertos celebrates lost loved ones and is a somber occasion, it is also one where you celebrate the lives of those you were close to…. The [Sinfonietta’s] annual Day of the Dead celebration [is] now in its seventh year…. Together with Roosevelt University’s Conservatory Choir and NewMoon Chicago, they will perform six movements from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem. … NewMoon Chicago will dress the choir members in costumes and masks for the performance.… During the intermission, there will be several activities related to the concert theme available in the lobby. Among those is the creation of an ofrenda—a traditional alter created for the deceased … ‘inviting our audience members to put the name of a lost loved one on a ribbon that we will be providing … When people come to a Sinfonietta concert we always invite active participation,’ ” said Chicago Sinfonietta CEO Jim Hirsch.
