The Omaha Symphony has named IAN PASSMORE assistant conductor. His contract, effective immediately, will run through the 2018-19 season. Passmore was most recently associate instructor of orchestral conducting at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he also served as music director of the IU All-Campus Orchestra and taught conducting. In 2016, he spent several weeks as guest conductor and visiting professor at the Vietnam National Academy of Music in Hanoi, leading masterclasses, orchestra rehearsals, and a performance with the Hanoi Philharmonic. He was also the 2015-16 Schmidt Conducting Fellow with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Passmore has completed coursework for a doctor of music degree in orchestral conducting from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and holds a master’s of music in orchestral conducting from the University of Delaware, as well as a bachelor of arts in music from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
