“The rising popularity of the Brazosport Symphony Orchestra brings both good and bad news for music lovers this season,” writes Mary Newport in Friday’s (11/3) The Facts (Clute, TX). “Increased ticket sales mean the symphony is thriving, but fans must be sure to secure seats early or face a sold-out house…. BSO President Harold Nicoll [said], ‘Our seat sales have been up 200 percent since 2014. We went from having 300 tickets sold to 500 on average.’ … On Nov. 11, it will present ‘Land of the Free, Home of the Brave,’ a patriotic program [with] the Brazosport Symphony Chorus [joining] the orchestra…. The symphony has partnered with Lake Jackson 75th Anniversary Committee to create a program [in March] that combines music and history. In the first half of the program, the symphony will play six of Sir Edward Elgar’s stirring marches, including ‘Pomp and Circumstance,’ punctuated by lectures on the history and industry of Lake Jackson.… Nicoll said … staff spent the summer revamping the ticket system, and guests will find it simple to get tickets and season memberships online, in person or over the phone. ‘We wanted getting a ticket to be easy, and it will be,’ Nicoll said.”
