“The Maryland Symphony Orchestra set a record for its biggest fundraising event of the year, raising $110,000 Saturday” at its annual Symphony Ball, writes Katiann Marshall in Monday’s (11/6) Herald-Mail (Hagerstown, MD). “Past balls have brought in, on average, anywhere from $40,000 to $70,000, MSO Executive Director Stephen Marc Beaudoin said. … ‘I believe it’s indicative of the kind of support, love and care our community has for the symphony…. The money we raise supports our critical mission, critical programs, concerts, music education, community-engagement efforts—which are all parts of our operation.’ Each year, the MSO reaches more than 10,000 area children through Kinder Konzerts, youth concerts, Symphony Saturdays, ensembles in the schools and free tickets for children to many of the concerts performed at the Maryland Theatre.… Working with music director Elizabeth Schulze, Beaudoin said the MSO will … ‘develop a more strategic vision for the future. Articulating our core values and spending time having more conversations with the community, our local government, social services, education, etc.’ … Beaudoin said he would like to see The Maryland Theatre, the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts and Barbara Ingram School for the Arts form a ‘regional creative system.’ ”
