“The Orchestra of Northern New York celebrated the season with ‘Winter Wonderland,’ which featured 16 musical numbers including ‘White Christmas,’ and selections from ‘The Nutcracker,’ ” writes Kathy Taber-Montgomery in Monday’s (12/18) Watertown Daily Tribune (N.Y.). “The performance took place on Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church in Watertown. ‘We regularly perform at First Presbyterian because of the amazing acoustics and the hospitality extended by the church staff,’ said Kathy Del Guidice, executive director for the orchestra. Conductor Kenneth Andrews—who started the orchestra 30 years ago—selected the songs for this year’s concert. And, because he focuses heavily on music education, the orchestra invited the Watertown High School’s Select Choir to sing along with a few of the numbers. Mr. Andrews said, ‘Our youth mission of music education is important and I think the students are blown away by the sound…. To all of a sudden sing with a professional orchestra is amazing and if this instills one iota of passion, then it was totally worth it to me.’ … The orchestra—which is comprised of musicians from all across the state and parts of Canada—will have another performance at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 27 in Watertown, titled ‘The Mastery of Bach.’ ”
