Minnesota’s Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra has partnered with a local brewery to create DüsselDirk Altbier, a German-style beer named after Music Director Dirk Meyer, a native of Germany. The beer by Duluth-based Bent Paddle Brewing Company will be released on February 3, the same date as the orchestra’s performance and live recording of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, and is being sold at Bent Paddle’s Tap Room, DECC Symphony Hall (the orchestra’s performance venue), and other locations in the Twin Ports cities of Duluth, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin. Plans for the beer had been in the works since Meyer’s arrival six years ago, when the DSSO held its first Beerthoven event (Beer and Beethoven) event. On February 3, the DSSO and MPR are launching three months of Beerthoven activities, culminating in an event at Bent Paddle’s new Tap Room on April 5.
