“As the Winter Olympics in South Korea move into a second week, the Adrian Symphony Orchestra celebrates all things athletic with a concert featuring music from sports-related films of all sorts plus several themes that will be familiar to Olympics-watchers,” writes Arlene Bachanov in Tuesday’s (2/13) Daily Telegram (Adrian, Mich.). The February 17 concert, “Movies, Music, Sports,’ is “split about evenly between music written for the Olympics by both John Williams and David Foster, and tunes from a whole gamut of sports movies, including ‘Rudy,’ ‘Hoosiers,’ ‘The Natural,’ ‘Rocky,’ and even two movies set at the Olympics, ‘Miracle’ and ‘Chariots of Fire.’ ‘I’ve been wanting to do something like this for many years,’ said ASO music director Bruce Anthony Kiesling. ‘I love movies and especially movies about sports’ … Guest artist Sophie Madorsky of Cleveland, Ohio, a senior musical-theater student at the University of Michigan … will perform ‘Light the Fire Within,’ which LeAnn Rimes sang at the opening of the 2002 Winter Games, and ‘One Moment in Time,’ written in connection with the 1988 Summer Olympics and made a chart-topper by Whitney Houston.”
