The Curtis 20/21 Ensemble, the Curtis Institute of Music’s contemporary-music group, will perform Arnold Schoenberg’s 1912 melodrama Pierrot lunaire at 8 p.m. on February 24 as part of Curtis’s school-wide “Edge Effect” project. The concert and discussion, led by David Ludwig, the school’s chair of composition studies and artistic director of the Curtis 20/21 Ensemble, will be streamed live at https://www.youtube.com/user/curtisinstitute. The discussion will consider Schoenberg’s response to turbulent times through words, music, and theater, and will relate to the school’s “Edge Effect” project, which focuses on how musicians respond to and are influenced by cultures, traditions, and environments. The Curtis Institute’s school-wide projects are intensive interdepartmental examinations of a specific composition, genre, or era across the academic curriculum.
