“The Elgin Symphony Orchestra’s final concerts of the year will take place as planned in May as the group’s board of directors looks for an infusion of funding to meet bills and plan for next season,” writes Mike Danahey in Friday’s (3/30) Elgin Courier-News (Elgin, IL). “ ‘The concerts are definitely going on,’ ESO CEO Dave Bearden said Friday morning. The ESO board met Thursday and agreed by consensus to aggressively raise the money needed for the orchestra to finish its 2017-18 season with May 4 and May 5 concerts. Bearden and ESO Marketing Director Diane Handler said two dozen people took part in the session. Bearden said the immediate goal is to raise $140,000 to get the ESO clearly past the May concerts, pay those it owes and begin to get ready for its 2018-2019 season to start in the fall. At its March 25-26 concerts at the Hemmens Cultural Center, Music Director Andrew Grams let patrons know the symphony was in need of further support or might not be able to stage its May performances.”
