The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra has named JOSÉ LUIS DOMÍNGUEZ artistic director of the NJSO Youth Orchestras, through June 2020. He has been serving as interim artistic director of the NJSO Youth Orchestras since September 2017. This season, he worked with NJSO Youth Orchestras artistic faculty and conducted two of its four ensembles. Domínguez will lead the NJSO’s free summer parks concerts in June and July. The Chilean-born Domínguez was previously resident conductor of the Santiago Philharmonic Orchestra. He annually directs programs with the National Youth Symphony Orchestra of Chile, where he was principal conductor before assuming his current roles as principal guest conductor and artistic senior advisor. He regularly guest-conducts the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia. Conducting highlights have included Carmina Burana with Spanish theater troupe Fura Dels Baus, New Year’s concerts with the Staatsoperorchester de Braunschweig in Germany, and performances with the Buenos Aires Philharmonic at Teatro Colón, with Renée Fleming in Chile, and at the Summer International Music Festival in Frutillar, Chile. Domínguez is also a composer.
