A report in Sunday’s (11/22) Post Crescent (Appleton, Wisconsin) states, “Two days before Christmas, at least 100 youth plan to gather for a holiday party at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Fox Valley in downtown Appleton. They’ll each be able to choose a book to take home with them as a gift from the community, courtesy of the ‘Season’s Reading: Give-a-Kid-a-Book’ campaign, a new collaboration among three Fox Valley libraries, the Fox Valley Symphony and the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center. … The campaign, which also gets books into the hands of disadvantaged youth through Salvation Army-Fox Cities and Boys’ & Girls’ Brigade of the Fox Valley programs, is a twist on annual winter holiday campaigns that the Appleton, Neenah and Hortonville libraries have run for more than a decade. … the collaborative effort invites patrons to bring books to the Fox Valley Symphony’s ‘Holiday Pops’ concert Dec. 12 and to Nebraska Theatre Caravan’s touring production of ‘A Christmas Carol’ at the PAC on Dec. 15. … The collaborative collection came about when Fox Valley Symphony executive director Marta Weldon was searching for another way the symphony could help the community after its successful food drive last year.”
