“It’s a story with live sound effects,” writes Emily DeVoe on Monday (2/11) at Knoxville TV station WBIR. “Members of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra visit libraries and schools in 19 counties across East Tennessee creating a memorable and musical story time experience. ‘This is one of my favorite programs we do at the KSO,’ said KSO education director Jennifer Harrell. ‘I love hearing how the kids respond to the stories and then tying all of that in with what we do at the symphony. We feel like it’s so important for us to catch students at this age and introduce them to classical music.’ Violinist Michael Acosta said the musicians sit down and select music and themes that fit with each story. His favorite aspect of the program is when they get to show the kids how to hold and play the instruments after all the books are read. ‘It’s rewarding to see their faces as they experience something new,’ Acosta said. Carrie Richard said she loves bringing her children to story time at the library…. ‘The KSO just brings a new dynamic by introducing the kids to music,’ Richard said.”
