The Oklahoma City Philharmonic has announced that longtime executive director EDDIE WALKER will step down on April 1, 2019. He will become executive director at Oklahoma Contemporary, an arts education, exhibition, and performance center that is slated to open a new campus in the fall of 2019. KRIS MARKES, who has been with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic since 2001 and is currently general manager, will serve as the orchestra’s interim executive director. Said Board President Terri Cooper, “On behalf of everyone in the Philharmonic family, I want to express our profound appreciation to Eddie for his three decades of enthusiastic service…. Stepping in as interim executive director is Kris Markes. Kris has established herself as a superb manager, performing many of the most important functions and responsibilities of the organization. She has excellent credentials and qualifications, and we are extremely fortunate that she is available and willing to take on this important position.” Alexander Mickelthwate is the orchestra’s music director.
