On April 18, the Tucson Symphony Orchestra will perform a free concert at Tucson Music Hall featuring Landfall by fourteen-year-old TSO Young Composers Project student Rory Bricca. Music Director José Luis Gomez will conduct the TSO and the Tucson Girls Chorus Advanced Choir in a program that also includes the Blue Danube Waltz, “Greensleeves,” and “Pomp and Circumstance” March. The concert will mark the first time the Tucson Girls Chorus has sung with the TSO. Bricca, in his second year in the Young Composers Project, is a pianist and French horn player. He says Landfall describes the growing intensity of a hurricane as it approaches, makes landfall, and finally creates a rainbow. The Young Composers Project is a year-long course where students ages 8 to 18 learn to compose for orchestra while working alongside other young composers, orchestral musicians, conductors, and contemporary composers. The program is in its 26th year and has produced more than 400 new works by young composers.
