On May 14, the Des Moines Symphony will present the final 2018-19 concert in its informal Spotlight at the Temple chamber series curated by Des Moines Symphony musicians and performed in the Hall of the Temple for the Performing Arts in Des Moines. The concert, performed in the round and featuring musicians from the Des Moines Symphony and the orchestra’s Des Moines Symphony Academy, will include Camille Saint-Saëns’s Fantaisie for Violin and Harp, Hector Berlioz’s L’enfance du Christ–Trio des Ismaelites, and Lou Harrison’s The Perilous Chapel. Des Moines Symphony Principal Harp Erin Brooker-Miller will also perform on Irish harp, with selections announced from the stage. At a post-concert reception, audience members can mingle with musicians. The Spotlight series launched in May 2018 as part of the Des Moines Symphony’s ongoing efforts to reach new audiences and connect with members of the community outside traditional concert settings. “Not only does Spotlight allow our musicians to take center stage, it breaks down the barriers between audiences and performers in a new and exciting way,” says Music Director Joseph Giunta.
