On May 31, the Nashville Symphony will give the first of four performances of a new multimedia production of Orff’s Carmina Burana, in partnership with the Nashville Ballet and filmmaker Duncan Copp. The Monday, June 3 performance will take place during the League of American Orchestras’ 2019 National Conference in Nashville; click here for more information about the League Conference. Music Director Giancarlo Guerrero will conduct the combined forces of the Nashville Symphony, Nashville Ballet, Nashville Symphony Chorus, Blair Children’s Chorus, and vocal soloists. Nashville Ballet Artistic Director Paul Vasterling is choreographing the production. The orchestra will perform on the floor of Schermerhorn Symphony Center’s Laura Turner Concert Hall in a retrofitted “orchestra pit,” with choral ensembles placed in strategic locations around the hall, and Nashville Ballet dancers performing onstage while Copp’s film is screened in HD. Also on the program: Joan Tower’s Sixth Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman, Jonathan Leshnoff’s Symphony No. 4 (“Heichalos”), and Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings.
