The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra has named ELENA DUBINETS to the newly created position of chief artistic officer, effective in August 2019. Dubinets was most recently vice president of artistic planning and creative projects at the Seattle Symphony, where she served since 2003. In Atlanta, she will serve as chief curator for the orchestra’s programming and community engagement activities. She will also lead efforts to create programming aimed at increasing the breadth and diversity of the orchestra’s repertoire, artists, and audience. During her tenure at the Seattle Symphony, the orchestra commissioned 60 compositions and she curated initiatives linking the orchestra’s programming to community identity and current events. Dubinets was previously artistic advisor for the Seattle Chamber Players. She has been an affiliate assistant professor at the University of Washington since 2014. As a musicologist, Dubinets has published four books and many articles. Dubinets earned M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in musicology and music theory from the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory and has lived in the U.S. since 1996. At the Atlanta Symphony, Dubinets will fill the roles previously held by Evans Mirageas, vice president of artistic planning, and Holly Hudak, senior director of education.
