“The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is shaking up its leadership just a few days after putting an end to a months-long contract dispute with musicians,” writes Amanda Yeager in Thursday’s (9/26) Baltimore Business Journal. “The symphony’s Board of Directors elected … Barry F. Rosen as its new chair at the organization’s annual meeting Wednesday…. Rosen will replace Barbara Bozzuto, who led the board for the past five years. Board members [elected] Bozzuto as chair laureate. She’ll continue to help with fundraising efforts for the symphony, which has faced $16 million in financial losses over the past decade. The leadership change follows a press conference Monday where symphony leadership and musicians joined together to announce they had signed a new one-year contract after months of negotiations, a summer-long lockout and a work stoppage that delayed the symphony’s season opening.” Rosen is CEO of the Gordon Feinblatt law firm and “formerly served as the BSO board’s vice chair…. In the next year, the symphony will look to … put the organization on a more stable financial footing. Musicians will take part in planning through a newly established Vision Committee, and a work group established by state lawmakers is also discussing solutions.”
