Apollo’s Fire and Artistic Director Jeanette Sorell in performance
To provide programming for listeners at home during the COVID-19 crisis, the Cleveland-based period-instrument ensemble Apollo’s Fire has launched Music for the Soul, a free, semi-weekly series of online programs featuring concert videos, interviews, and related reading. Beginning March 17, videos are being posted Tuesdays and Fridays. The series began with some “old favorite” videos, and will include new videos and interviews beginning next week. The March 17 episode, a 40-minute St. Patrick’s Day-themed edition, featured ten Celtic Christmas videos with Celtic harp. The performances are interspersed with a Facebook discussion group for listeners to discuss clips, followed by more videos. Apollo’s Fire Artistic Director Jeanette Sorell writes, “All of us at Apollo’s Fire are grateful that music, art, and literature nourish us during hardship. You recall Boccaccio’s delightful Decameron, penned during a 14th-century plague. Later, Handel composed his masterpiece, Messiah, during a personal financial crisis.
