Oregon’s Eugene Symphony is inviting piano-playing members of the community to participate in its Beethoven Piano Marathon on February 28. For the five-hour free event, beginning at noon, pianists of any age or ability may perform a favorite Beethoven piano piece in what the orchestra is describing as a “no pressure” opportunity to perform onstage at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts in Eugene. For the event, the orchestra anticipates that audience members will come and go freely during the course of the afternoon. The marathon piano recital is being presented as part of Eugene’s “Sound Perspectives” series, whose theme in 2009-10 is “exploring Beethoven,” in conjunction with the orchestra’s performances of all the Beethoven piano concertos throughout the season; this month Angela Hewitt performs Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 with the orchestra on February 18. Pianists wishing to participate may call 541-687-9487 ext 100 or email chris.collins@eugenesymphony.org.
