Florida’s Orlando Philharmonic has announced that ANDREW LANE will step down as principal pops conductor after the completion of the orchestra’s 2009-10 season in May. Lane has been associated with the Orlando Philharmonic for seventeen years. He was instrumental in founding the organization in 1993, serving as its first general manager. Early in his tenure he developed and conducted the Philharmonic’s educational and community concerts, and was appointed principal pops and resident conductor in 1996. Lane will continue to serve as pops conductor of Florida’s Sarasota Orchestra; as music director of the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra, based in Winter Park; and as a frequent guest conductor with the Naples (Fla.) Philharmonic, where he leads pops, light classical, and young people’s concerts. The Orlando Philharmonic Board of Directors, management, and musicians will work with Music Director Christopher Wilkins to identify a successor to Lane as principal pops conductor; in the interim Wilkins will oversee the orchestra’s pops programming.
