American Composers Orchestra will convene a free online conversation about contemporary chamber-orchestra repertoire on June 18 at 4:30 p.m. ET, as orchestras look at smaller-scale programs and social distancing during the pandemic. Edward Yim, president of the NYC-based American Composers Orchestra, will moderate the discussion with Derek Bermel, artistic director of American Composers Orchestra; Ben Cadwallader, executive director of Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra; Kyu-Young Kim, artistic director of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra; and Alecia Lawyer, founder and artistic director of River Oaks Chamber Orchestra (Texas). Panelists will select two or three pieces for chamber orchestra (maximum 50 players) that their orchestra commissioned, premiered, or championed. They will introduce these recent works and the composers, share recordings, and invite one featured composer to join them for the discussion. A resource guide of new works for chamber orchestra will be shared with registrants. Orchestra staff and programming personnel are invited to join the conversation to learn more about new works available for smaller orchestras, as they plan upcoming seasons or develop programming.
