The Fairfax Symphony Orchestra in Virginia has announced its 2010-11 season, which will include six programs at the George Mason University’s Center for the Arts in Fairfax. The season, the second under Music Director Christopher Zimmermann, will also feature the orchestra’s first two concerts in Merchant Hall at the new Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas, Virginia, which is set to open its doors in May 2010. The FSO season will include performances of symphonies by Rachmaninoff, Mendelssohn, Dvorák, and Sibelius; the final season performances at both venues will feature Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 (“Resurrection”) with the Fairfax Choral Society and Reston Chorale. Soloists scheduled to perform with the orchestra during the season include pianists Phillipe Bianconi and Matti Raekallio; violinists David Salness, Timothy Fain, and Chee-Yun; and violist Gregory Rupert.
