ALFRED SAVIA has signed a contract extending his tenure as music director and conductor of the Evansville (Ind.) Philharmonic Orchestra through the end of the 2012-13 season. The new contract will take him into his 24th season as the orchestra’s music director; only one other conductor has held the post longer: Minas Christian, who led the EPO from 1953 to 1979. Savia has guest conducted widely in the U.S. and Europe, and has held numerous conducting posts including associate conductor, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra; assistant conductor, Omaha Symphony; resident conductor, Florida Philharmonic and New Orleans Symphony Orchestra; associate conductor, Florida Symphony; and music director, Orlando Opera. A native of Livingston, N.J., he graduated from Butler University’s Jordan College and Fine Arts, subsequently pursuing conducting studies with Franco Ferrara at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy, and privately with Otto Werner Mueller.
