The Augusta Symphony in Georgia has redesigned the first half of its 2020-21 season, with fall concerts limited to current subscribers, who can choose to attend the concert, dress rehearsal, or watch a livestream. To accommodate physical distancing among the audience and the musicians, there will be shorter, intermission-free programs featuring chamber music including a reduced version of Mahler’s Symphony No. 4, Barber’s Adagio for Strings, and Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. Those who have already purchased pops or family subscriptions will have access to two private digital pops concerts. Winter/Spring 2021 concerts are expected return to full capacity. Three programs have been postponed to the 2021-22 season: E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial Film with Live Orchestra, Brass Transit: The Music of Chicago, and Halloween at the Symphony. The September 17, 2020 concert featuring music by Beethoven and Bizet, plus Miguel del Aguila’s Violin Concerto and Salon Buenos Aires, has been postponed to May 20, 2021. “It’s not the season we expected,” said Music Director Dirk Meyer, “but because we own our venue, have expert musicians who can adapt at moment’s notice … Fall Reimagined won’t disappoint.”
