Indiana’s Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra will open its 2020-21 season with a concert entitled “Visionaries Re-Imagined” at the 1,950-seat Victory Theatre in Evansville. Because of mandates limiting attendance to 250 people, there will be three performances of the program, one on September 19 for subscribers and two on September 20, one for subscribers and one for single-ticket buyers. Roger Kalia, the orchestra’s incoming music director, will conduct the world premiere of a commissioned fanfare by Paul Dooley, with brass musicians performing their parts in the balcony in a call and response with onstage strings and percussion. Also on the program will be J.S. Bach’s Keyboard Concerto in A major, BWV 1055, with pianist Sean Chen; George Walker’s Lyric for Strings; and Mozart’s Divertimento for Strings, K. 136. Social distancing and other safety precautions will be in place in accordance with State of Indiana and City of Evansville guidelines. Audience members will be required to wear masks at the concert, and there will be temperature checks, open doors to maximize air flow, and socially distanced seating assignments. Staff will clean between each concert, disinfecting lobby, hall, and bathrooms. The bar will not be open.
