The Princeton Symphony Orchestra in New Jersey has announced details of its 2010-2011 season, which will feature collaborations with Princeton-based composers Steven Mackey and Derek Bermel. The season will open October 3 with Music Director Rossen Milanov leading Mozart’s Overture to The Magic Flute, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, and Mackey’s Beautiful Passing with violinist Leila Josefowicz as soloist. A November “Eternal Feminine” music-and-art event will pair a concert featuring works by Wagner, Sibelius, Strauss, and Debussy with a private tour of the Princeton University Art Museum’s collection. In January, guest conductor Alasdair Neale will lead the orchestra in a program to include Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 and Pierre Jalbert’s Marimba Concerto with Bulgarian percussionist Svet Stoyanov. Other works planned for the season include Bermel’s Thracian Echoes; Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra; Mussorgsky’s Dawn on the Moskva River; Scriabin’s Symphony No. 2; Dvorak’s A minor Violin Concerto with violinist Jennifer Koh; and Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with pianist Di Wu.
