Missouri’s Kansas City Symphony announced that it has received a challenge grant of $300,000 from anonymous donors. To meet the challenge, the orchestra must raise the amount by June 30, the end of its fiscal year, through new or additional gifts from individuals. The orchestra has dubbed the challenge “Match the Match 4,” because it follows a successful $250,000 by anonymous donors the last two seasons and a $150,000 challenge the year prior to that. More than 2,200 people responded to the 2009 challenge, representing a 500-gift increase from the previous season. “We were overwhelmed at the response last year,” said Executive Director Frank Byrne, “and are excited about the opportunity to further motivate involvement and investment in the Symphony.” Led by Music Director Michael Stern, the orchestra performs a 42-week season of classical, family, and pops concerts and has a budget of approximately $11.6 million.
