The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has announced four additional episodes in its free digital series, “Front Row: The PSO Virtual Experience,” which features music performed by ensembles of the orchestra and guest musicians, plus interviews. The series launched in October; all episodes are available at the Pittsburgh Symphony’s website for six months following the premiere. The next episode, on November 20, entitled “Originators and Disruptors,” will feature music by Beethoven as well as Libby Larsen, Gary Schocker, Charles Rochester Young, plus a Beethoven orchestration by Music Director Manfred Honeck saluting Pittsburgh-based environmentalist and writer Rachel Carson, choreographer Martha Graham, sculptor Thaddeus Mosley, television creator Fred Rogers, and artist Andy Warhol. The episode was recorded at indoor and outdoor locations including Heinz Hall, the Andy Warhol Museum, and Fallingwater, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Principal Pops Conductor Byron Stripling will be featured in December 4 and 18episodes: “Finding Your Song” (music by Gabriela Lena Frank, Hannah Ishizaki, and Jorge Montilla) and “Tapestry of Light, A Holiday Celebration,” a virtual sensory-friendly program with print-at-home art by Emily Marko and resources created with community partners. January episodes at Heinz Hall and Washington Penn Plastics Hangar will feature music by Jennifer Higdon, Libby Larsen, Jessie Montgomery, Florence Price, Joan Tower, and Aaron Copland.
