Kansas City Symphony Concertmistress KANAKO ITO will step down on August 31, 2010, following ten years in that post. She is relocating to Glasgow, Scotland, where her husband, Martin Storey, was recently named principal cello with the BBC Scottish Orchestra. A native of northern Japan, Ito began her training in Tokyo and furthered her studies at the Paris Conservatoire and at Boston’s New England Conservatory, which awarded her an Artist Diploma. She performs frequently in Europe and Japan and has recorded for several labels including EMI, ASV, Naxos, and Fontec.
