The New York Youth Symphony has announced the appointment of KYLE BLAHA as director of its Making Score program, effective September 1. Now in its tenth season, Making Score is a series of workshops that provides young musicians with an opportunity to explore the world of composition and orchestration. Blaha is a doctoral candidate in composition at The Juilliard School, where he also received his master’s degree; he holds a bachelor’s degree in composition from the Eastman School. His work Filigree for clarinet and orchestra was premiered at Carnegie Hall by the New York Youth Symphony in November 2009 as part of First Music, the NYYS’s long-running commissioning program.
