Youth Orchestra of the Rockies (Fort Collins, Colo.) has appointed THOMAS BLOMSTER music director, effective August 1. A resident of Fort Collins, he is currently music director of the Colorado Chamber Orchestra and the Mile High Community Band, a percussionist with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic and the Denver Municipal Band, and on the faculty at Red Rocks Community College. Blomster has performed widely as a freelance percussionist, and has served as timpanist of the Denver Chamber Orchestra and on the roster of the Louisville Orchestra. He received his instrumental training at Aspen Music Festival and School, and subsequently at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin. Blomster holds a bachelor’s degree in conducting from Denver’s Metropolitan State College and a master’s in conducting from the University of Denver.
