The Bellingham Symphony Orchestra in Washington has appointed DAWN POSEY concertmaster. She will be the soloist in Ralph Vaughan Williams’s “The Lark Ascending” at the BSO’s season-opening concert on Sunday, Sept. 26. Posey is currently associate principal second violin with West Virginia’s Wheeling Symphony Orchestra and principal second violin of the Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra and Pittsburgh Ballet Orchestra. She was previously associate concertmaster with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra (Indiana) and has served as assistant concertmaster with the Youngstown Symphony and the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra. Posey is a founding member of Kassia Ensemble, a chamber group in Pittsburgh made up of female performers that seeks to empower women through performance, collaboration, and outreach. She received the Starling Scholarship at the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and also studied at the Aspen Music Festival, Boston Conservatory, and elsewhere. She has been on the faculty of the Pittsburgh Music Academy since 2009.
