An Associated Press report posted Monday (6/21) on Charleston, South Carolina’s WBTV website states, “A forum on the South Carolina coast focuses on the future of symphonic music in Charleston where the local symphony suspended performances earlier this year because of money problems. The College of Charleston, the Coastal Community Foundation and the Charleston Regional Alliance for the Arts host a forum on Monday at The Church of our Savior on Johns Island. Two more forums are scheduled on Tuesday on Daniel Island and in the West Ashley area of Charleston. Last month, musicians from the Charleston Symphony Orchestra rejected a contract that would have cut base salaries by 84% to $3,600 a year. In late March, the symphony management announced it was shutting down operations temporarily to restructure the symphony.”
