The New York Youth Symphony’s final 2021-22 concert will take place on May 19, when musicians from the NYYS’s orchestra, chamber music, and jazz programs will perform 16 world premieres at National Sawdust in Brooklyn. The concert will feature music by students in the NYYS’s composition program, which is directed by Kyle Blaha. Works for chamber orchestra, led by students from the NYYS’s conducting program, will include Ethan Fisher-Chaves’s Cross, James Pecore’s The Inner Light, Calysta Chamberlain’s Adagio for Chamber Orchestra, Chuyi Luo’s Dances of Light and Shadow, Nikolas Scheiber-Loeis’s Awakening, Jivan X. Ramesh’s Dawn, and Ilaria Hawley’s Azure. Chamber scores will include Hudson Ragins’s Gelatinous Chaos, Trinity Williamson’s Pencils Down, Jordan Millar’s Vidia, Nathaniel Strout’s A Bit on Fun!, Haeon Lee’s f.e.b., and Luke Christopher Baron’s Clarinet Quintet No. 1, “Wind Currents.” Jazz compositions will include Mateo Ramirez’s Rosethorn Rag, Danae Venson’s Shimmers of Blue, and Artemy Mukhin’s Island Blues.
