In Thursday’s (8/12) Statesman Journal (Salem, Oregon), Barbara Curtin writes, “The Oregon Symphony Association in Salem must raise about $2,000 more by Dec. 1 to win a $10,000 matching grant challenge presented by The Collins Foundation earlier this summer. The challenge calls for the symphony association to solicit new donors for gifts of less than $1,000 for a total of $10,000. The money will help offset the costs of bringing the Oregon Symphony to Salem for their nine-concert series. If the association cannot raise the match, it will lose the entire grant. Karin Holton, marketing and education director, said Thursday that the organization is talking with high school music teachers about possible fund-raising drives involving students who have benefited from Oregon Symphony Association in Salem programs. ‘This community really steps up and believes in the arts,’ said Holton. ‘We will make it as long as people contribute through Dec. 1.’ ” The article includes information about how to make donations to the symphony association.
