In Thursday’s (9/16) Coloradoan (Fort Collins), Stacey Nick writes, “Will Schwartz’s passion for music began early; at age 6 he began playing the violin, and by 15 he enrolled at the Julliard School of Music. Schwartz, who died Aug. 26 at his home in Drake, came to Fort Collins 61 years ago as a member of CSU’s music faculty; soon after arriving, he began working to start up a community symphony orchestra, featuring high school and college students, business people, professors and anyone who played an instrument. For 50 years, Schwartz worked to turn the Fort Collins Symphony into the professional orchestra that it is today, and even after his retirement in 1999, he continued to support the symphony and its members. … Former symphony members will return to perform with the current symphony at a memorial concert for Schwartz on Sunday, said symphony Executive Director Lynn Leedy. The show will also include guest artists Nina Fan and Noriko Tsuchiya performing Hergentwerger’s ‘Interlude for Violin and Piano’ and ‘Calypso for Violin and Piano,’ as well as ‘Sonata 3 in D-minor’ by Brahms, one of Schwartz’s favorite composers.”
