The inaugural concert of the Seattle Symphony’s new rush-hour concert series is set to take place at the S. Mark Taper Foundation Auditorium at Benaroya Hall on October 1 at 7 p.m. The event, the first of six intermission-less concerts during the 2010-11 season, will be preceded by a 5:30 p.m. happy hour with food and drink provided by Wolfgang Puck Catering in the Samuel and Althea Stroum Grand Lobby. The 75-minute concert that follows will feature Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande Suite, Dvořák’s Symphony No. 7, and Aaron Jay Kernis’s On Wings of Light, a world premiere. Subsequent rush-hour concerts will include Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 (November 12); Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet Suite (December 10); Brahms’s Symphony No. 4 (February 11); Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 (March 18); and Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 3 (April 8). The rush-hour series is designed to highlight popular works in the symphonic repertoire and offer an affordable concert alternative, with single-ticket prices ranging from $14 to $77.
