Eastman BroadBand, a contemporary chamber-music ensemble from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, will perform a program featuring “New Music from the Americas” at Columbia University’s Miller Theatre in New York City on November 1. The concert, featuring several New York premieres, will explore several composers’ interaction with contemporary culture through perspectives that include musical folklore of Mexico, Spain, and Pakistan; the kinetic sculptures of Arthur Ganson; and the “music of architecture.” Among the featured composers on the program are Baljinder Sekhon, Silvestre Revueltas, Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez, Alejandro Viñao, Juan Trigos, and Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon. The New York concert is scheduled just prior to the ensemble’s tour of Mexico, where it will perform in the Festival Internacional Cervantino in Guanajuato (November 3-5) and Conservatorio Nacional de Música in Mexico City (November 6). BroadBand’s artistic directors are Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez and Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon; Juan Trigos is the principal conductor; the group’s aim is to explore contemporary music-making through modern classics, such as Ligeti, Lutoslawski, Birtwistle, and Carter, as well as through recent music by living composers.
