In Tuesday’s (10/5) Boston Globe, Vivian Ho reports, “The Boston Symphony Orchestra will launch a music education pilot program at the Thomas A. Edison School in Brighton this week, according to the BSO. The BSO Academy School Initiative, a partnership between the orchestra and the Boston public schools, will provide students at the Edison School with an integrated music curriculum, as well as access to the BSO’s education programs and interaction with professional musicians, BSO officials said in a statement. The program officially kicks off at the Edison School’s open house tomorrow. The impact of the pilot program, to last for the school year, will be evaluated by David Reider, principal of Education Design, a consulting firm in Boston. … The BSO Academy School Initiative will provide the approximately 775 students in kindergarten through eighth grade with general music classes, instrumental music instruction, singing classes, and a string and band program. Students in grades 6 through 8 will participate in performing arts classes that will culminate in a yearly musical, as well as smaller ensembles such as a chamber music and jazz. The program is sponsored by UBS, a global financial services company.”
