In Thursday’s (10/21) Nashua Telegraph (New Hampshire), Michael Brindley writes, “Like any high school student, Tim Marquis enjoys many of the modern bands putting out music. Green Day, Maroon 5 and Guster are some of his favorites. But it’s his passion for classical music that probably isn’t shared by most of his peers at Nashua High School North. … But the 17-year-old Marquis hopes to change their tune. That’s why the North senior jumped at the chance to be the first student member of the Nashua Symphony Association. Marquis was voted onto the board as an ex-officio member Oct. 12. Four days later, he was spending his Saturday evening attending the opening night performance of the Nashua Symphony Orchestra at Keefe Auditorium. … Eric Valliere, executive director of the Nashua Symphony Association, said what he saw from Marquis that night convinced him he was serious about his new role. Seeing that the people working the show were short-handed, Valliere said Marquis didn’t hesitate to lend a hand.” Marquis, a bassoonist, pianist, and drum major for his school’s marching band, “sees this new position as a chance to be a youth advocate of sorts for a style of music he loves.”
