In Thursday’s (3/19) Sacramento Business Journal, Mark Anderson reports, “The University of California Davis has named Christian Baldini as the new conductor of the school’s symphony orchestra. The Argentinean-born Baldini was the conductor and music director of the State University of New York at Buffalo. He will join the faculty at Davis as an assistant professor in July. He will make his campus conducting debut during a June 4 concert at the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. Baldini was selected after a national search. He succeeds Kern Holoman, who is stepping down as conductor of the university’s symphony orchestra after 30 years. Holoman will remain on the faculty. Baldini has won awards for his conducting, and he has conducted orchestras in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, England and Germany.”
