NPR’s From The Top national radio broadcast is the latest classical-music presenter to use YouTube as a way for young musicians to audition. With “Big Break,” From The Top and Carnegie Hall are inviting musicians ages 8 to 18 to audition for a spot on From The Top, as well as an opportunity to appear in a Carnegie Hall Family Concert at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall in spring 2011. To audition, musicians must upload a video of a solo classical performance at http://www.youtube.com/bigbreak. The deadline for submissions is November 18. Entries will be judged by a panel of judges at From The Top and Carnegie Hall, who will select a group of finalists. Public voting will take place between November 29 and December 14, with winners to be announced in mid-December. The From The Top organization also includes a national tour of live events, a scholarship program, educational partnerships and programs, and, since 2007, a PBS television program.
